Sapphire Radeon R9 290X Tri-X OC 4GB - Overclocking
We used MSI Afterburner to overclock the Sapphire R9 290X Tri-X OC, and were able to unlock voltage adjustments too. We began by setting the power limit to 150% and increasing the voltage by 100mV, resulting in a total voltage of around 1.2V. There is no temperature target available in the Catalyst Control Centre with this card, so Sapphire is evidently confident that its cooler will keep the card at low enough temperatures for this to not be a concern.
We reached a final core clock speed of 1,180MHz, a whole 60MHz higher than the stock card and a solid 13 percent overclock from Sapphire's original 1,040MHz. On the memory we managed 1.425GHz (5.7GHz effective), which is more than we saw on the stock card too and is equal to around 10 percent. All in all the card has a very healthy amount of overclocking headroom, but always remember that variance between samples will always happen.
